SHIP Training Grant for Special Education Paraeducators

The Mount Vernon School District learned in June 2016, that it had received funding from the Department of Labor and Industries for a SHIP Grant focusing on Special Education injury reduction. The grant is run in conjunction with L&I and ESD 113. 60 special education paraeducators will be trained through the grant program during 2016-17. Five days of training are provided by the grant


There are four strategies and focus areas of the grant;

  1. Development of safety curriculum and implementation of curriculum into the teacher certification program at UW
  2. Development and implementation of safety curriculum for special education para professionals taught over five training days
  3. Development of personal protection equipment for special education para educators
  4. Development of sped student transfer protocols between classroom and bus

Paraeducators will receive compensation for time spent in training.

The following dates are CONFIRMED for the ESD 113 LNI SHIP Grant Trainings in the Mount Vernon School District:
  • Friday, October 14, 2016
  • Saturday, October 16, 2016
  • Monday, January 30, 2017
  • Friday, March 10, 2017
  • Friday, May 12, 2017​
​Trainings have tentatively been booked in the MVHS Cafeteria (New Main) for the above dates.
